This is a before an after picture. It may look cleaner and more white, but lets take a closer look to see the rotten wood.
␠
The picture above on the left shows the aluminum flashing that was used to cap and protect the trim below. If you look closely, you will see a joint in the aluminum under the second house number. The caulk had become brittle and cracked at this joint casing all the rain that would run down the siding and collect in this area to seep into the wood below.
␠
As you can tell from the picture above, the water damage to all the trim and mouldings was pretty severe. We were able to take this section down by hand in flakes. The only thing holding the trim together in these sections was the paint.
␠
We replaced the exterior plywood sheathing, but fortunately the 2″x4″ behind were still solid. You may be wondering about the beam, well, the bottom of the beam sat even with the bottom of the siding. maybe this was a blessing in disguise.

A couple final shots. Azeks exterior trim boards are some of the best products on the market. They can be sanded, routered, cleaned with soap water and do not need to be painted. They also come with a 25 year warranty.
If you need to replace exterior trim, consider the cost of painting and caulking every couple years vs. spending the extra money to avoid the hassle. If you plan to stay in your home for a number of years, consider a PVC (polychloride vinyl) product and won’t expand and contract like wood. It is absolutely worth the money.

We had some bad water damage behind our gutters. I wish my contractor had told me about Azeks. We replaced with wood, but the same problem came back. Uggg! Thanks for sharing your project, looks wonderful!
Ray did an outstanding job and I would use him again for future projects. We are really pleased with the result.
Ray replaced our rotten trim boards almost 2 years ago with Azek trim boards. They look as new today as they did then. We are very pleased with the work and the product. Thanks Ray!
