Front Door Replacement
Rotten Door
Fredericksburg, VA
This homeowner spent $6,000 to have the front of her house wrapped with aluminum in mid 2009. The contractors that did the work replaced sections of her front door trim with un-primed woodand did not caulk or wrap the aluminum properly. Here are pictures of the wood they replaced and the existing trim that started to rot due to ongoing moisture left trapped behind the aluminum wrap from rain. I’ll also add that we had to replace the subfloor. It was also rotten to the point we could stick our arm through the wood.

Here’s a photo of the weather damaged and rotten osb plywood subfloor inside the front door.

Here are some pictures taken before and during the projects. The rough opening was thoroughly flashed with Tyvek Flex Wrap Flashing.

After front door installation. The only wood on the new door is the door jam. We used PVC (poly-vinyl chloride) boards for all other trim pieces.

Wow! What an awful thing. Love the new look.
Great job Ray! It doesn’t look builder grade anymore. Clean and classy.
