A new roof installation can certainly interrupt your day-to-day life. This is by no means a reason to neglect your roof and avoid having a new one installed. To properly protect your house and your belongings, it is important to follow these steps to ensure that nothing ends up broken, scratched, or damaged.
Inside your home
To prevent pictures or items hanging on your walls from falling during the installation it is best to take them down. When the roof installation takes place, there are vibrations that can cause things to fall. So it is best to have everything taken down as a precaution.
If you have small children or skittish pets, you may want them to be out of the home during installation. This is due to the noise and vibrations, which can disturb pets and children easily.
Something you may not think about when preparing for your new roof is the items you have stored in your attic. When the roof is being taken off, granules from the shingles can fall into your attic, covering your belongings in dust and debris. Sometimes when wiping these off, scratches occur due to the roughness of the granules. To prevent this, you can move your items to a lower level during the project. You can also cover the items with a tarp if you want them to stay in the attic.
Outside your home
Clearing the driveway is helpful on installation day so that the materials and trucks can get through with no problems.
It could also benefit you to move things away from the house as much as you can. Your landscaping will be covered with tarps to prevent debris from falling into bushes or on flowers. If there is a special spot that you want extra care taken in, alert your project manager of this.
